Technology and Sustainability: Ascenty’s lessons for a green and connected future
Do you believe that technology and sustainability will define the future of the next generations? If we stop to analyze today’s world, it’s clear to see how these two elements are increasingly going hand in hand.
For some years now, Ascenty, Latin America’s leading data center and connectivity company, has prioritized sustainable development. With this, we were able to demonstrate that it is possible to offer high connectivity and excellent services without sacrificing our commitment to the environment.
That’s why, in addition to innovation, reliability and safety, we are also the standard bearer when it comes to sustainability. Here, we would like to invite you to learn more about our good practices that confirm the success of a sustainable and technological approach. Check it out!
Technology drives sustainability. The decision is yours!
Technology is a major driver of human development. In fact, it’s hard to imagine what our lives would be like without certain resources and tools.
In this sense, there is no doubt that technological innovations help us solve the most varied needs of society. So why not use them to promote sustainability?
In recent years, we have seen how much the digital transformation is driving economic development across the planet. Now, we need to refine our outlook and understand this process as a tool to protect the environment.
And that’s not a difficult task! Many companies are already investing in the responsible and sustainable use of natural resources; and they are doing so with the help of innovation and new technologies.
Here, you will find some examples and get inspired to join this journey. This is because a green future depends on the decision and dedication of each company, regardless of its segment or size.
Obviously, there are numerous actions to be implemented. From basic to advanced, do your part, within your means!
Sustainable Value Chain: change starts here!
A study by Ibope, in partnership with Yale University, concluded that 77% of Brazilians believe that protecting the environment is a pressing matter. In addition, 95% of the population say that global warming is visible and could harm current and future generations.
However, this trend is not exclusive to Brazil. In fact, we are witnessing a global movement that reinforces the need for brands to rethink their processes with a focus on implementing increasingly efficient and sustainable value chains.
In this sense, we need to be aware of several factors and carefully evaluate all the businesses with which our company interacts or has partnerships. After all, it is essential that all processes and activities comply with environmental guidelines, including:
- Logistics;
- Operations;
- Services;
- Sales;
- Marketing;
- Infrastructure.
Technology & Sustainability: 4 lessons from Ascenty that stand out in promoting a green and connected future
As a leader in Data Center and Connectivity infrastructure in Latin America, Ascenty could not fail to contribute to promoting a green and connected future. That’s why we take the issue seriously and have numerous sustainable initiatives in place.
Our mission is to take care of the data that drives the world, but we do so with all the care that the environment deserves. In this sense, we have selected some examples of how it is possible to reconcile technology and sustainability in an efficient and totally responsible way. Check it out!
1. Data centers running on 100% clean energy
Since 2020, all Ascenty data centers have been operating with 100% renewable energy, guaranteed by IREC (International Renewable Energy Certificate). It is worth noting that the use of renewable sources, such as water and solar energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact.
In addition, all of Ascenty’s data centers are ISO 14001 certified, which establishes guidelines for excellence in environmental management systems.
2. 100% LED lighting at our data centers
Ascenty has adopted LED lighting in all its data centers, which contributes significantly to reducing energy consumption. This measure helps to improve the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) index — an international parameter of energy efficiency.
To give you an idea, the average PUE in Ascenty’s data centers in 2022 was 1.44, an excellent figure that demonstrates the company’s commitment to optimizing energy consumption.
In addition, the São Paulo Data Center has a photovoltaic energy plant capable of generating 14.6 MW per year. This energy is used for lighting and cooling, making the data center even more sustainable.
3. Carbon Neutral Seal
Reinforcing its commitment to neutralizing its carbon emissions, Ascenty has the Carbon Neutral seal. The company carries out strategic actions to measure, reduce and offset its emissions, helping to mitigate climate change.
Carbon neutrality is a source of pride, as it shows that our efforts are paying off. We are aware of the environmental impact of the technology sector as a whole, and we are doing our part.
4. Reusing water in data center cooling systems
Along with other initiatives, Ascenty has also adopted effective control of water use at its data centers, all to ensure conscious and responsible consumption of this important resource.
As an example, the chilled water plants of refrigeration systems operate in a closed circuit, which considerably reduces consumption without affecting the quality and effectiveness of the process.
You too can build a green future!
